|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Harold James Klaman of Danville, who |
4 | | passed away on October 13, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman was born in Danville Township to |
6 | | Franklin and Anna Hayman Klaman on March 25, 1925; he was a |
7 | | member of the Danville High School Class of 1943 but left |
8 | | school at 17 before the end of his senior year to enter the |
9 | | armed services; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman joined the U.S. Army Air Force and |
11 | | served as a bombardier in a B-17 warplane named the Milk Run; |
12 | | he graduated from officer's training school and was |
13 | | commissioned as a lieutenant and assigned to the Debach Air |
14 | | Base near Ipswich, England as a member of the 861st Bombardment |
15 | | Squadron of the 493rd Bomb Group; he completed his full 25 |
16 | | missions over western Europe and Germany and was awarded the |
17 | | Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three |
18 | | clusters; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman returned to Danville in August of |
20 | | 1945; he earned his bachelor's degree in education from |
21 | | Illinois State Normal University and his master's degree from |
22 | | the University of Illinois; he served as a member of the |
|

1 | | Danville School District No. 118 faculty for 33 years beginning |
2 | | in 1950 and married Shirley Ann Mauck on June 10, 1953; he |
3 | | taught and served as coach at Franklin, Edison, and Collett |
4 | | Elementary Schools for nine years; from 1959 to 1964, he was |
5 | | the principal of Lincoln and Fairchild Elementary Schools; he |
6 | | was principal of East Park Jr. High School from 1964 to 1977; |
7 | | he was Director of Vocational Education at Danville High School |
8 | | for six years until his retirement in 1983; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman had the ability to repair almost any |
10 | | motor and to construct, repair, and modify most structures; he |
11 | | was very proud of building his family's house himself in 1956 |
12 | | on the neighboring lot to his parents' home; he remodeled and |
13 | | made two additions to his home and resided there for the |
14 | | remainder of his life; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman was a member of St. Paul's Roman |
16 | | Catholic Church for 83 years; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman took pride in being one of the |
18 | | passengers on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.; his |
19 | | grandson, Ryan, accompanied him on this special occasion and |
20 | | also nominated him for two veteran honors that he received, |
21 | | including being named to the veterans Wall of Honor at Kenneth |
22 | | D. Bailey Academy; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman was preceded in death by his wife, |
2 | | Shirley, and his sister, Marjorie Klaman (Wayne) Denman; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Harold Klaman is survived by his daughter, |
4 | | Kimberly Ann (Duane) Webber; his grandchildren, Ryan (Hilary) |
5 | | Cerutti, Earl (Ashley) Webber, and Andrew (Emilie) Webber; his |
6 | | great-grandchildren, Olivia and Ava Cerutti, Tyler and Jacob |
7 | | Webber, and Keaghan, Jay, and Willow Webber; his nephews, Mark |
8 | | Denman and Greg (Janet) Denman; his niece, Ann (William) Blair; |
9 | | and his great-nephews and nieces, Jay (Jena) O'Blenis, Tim |
10 | | (Keira) O'Blenis, Margie (Brent) Lockhart, Mark J. Denman, and |
11 | | Judy Denman; therefore, be it

12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Harold James Klaman and extend our sincere condolences to his |
15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
16 | | further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Harold Klaman as an expression of |
19 | | our deepest sympathy.
