| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Marvin "Marv" Harold Abrahamson, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on August 28, 2018 at the age of 93; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson was born to Lillian and Joseph | ||||||
| 6 | Abrahamson on March 13, 1925; the youngest of four children, he | ||||||
| 7 | grew up in South Austin at Adams and Central; he attended | ||||||
| 8 | Robert Emmett Elementary School and Austin High School, where | ||||||
| 9 | he played guard on the varsity basketball team and graduated in | ||||||
| 10 | 1943; after a semester at Wilbur Wright Junior College, he | ||||||
| 11 | enlisted in the United States Navy; he served honorably in the | ||||||
| 12 | Pacific and returned home in 1946; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson joined his father and brother, | ||||||
| 14 | Elmer, in the family furrier business on Madison and Mayfield | ||||||
| 15 | Streets; in the 1950s, the fur salon moved to 122 North Marion | ||||||
| 16 | in Oak Park, where it remained well into the 21st century; in | ||||||
| 17 | 1978, a third generation was welcomed into Abrahamson's Furs, | ||||||
| 18 | when Marv's son, Bruce, joined the business; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson was a proud Chicagoan and Oak | ||||||
| 20 | Parker and was a member of the Oak Park River Forest Rotary and | ||||||
| 21 | the Oak Park Tennis Club, where he was noted for his "deftness | ||||||
| 22 | at switching the racket to his other hand and scoring at the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | net"; he loved basketball and was a Chicago Bulls season ticket | ||||||
| 2 | holder for nearly half a century; he supported the Hephzibah | ||||||
| 3 | Children's Association and the Southern Poverty Law Center; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson was considered the unofficial | ||||||
| 5 | "Mayor of Marion Street" and encouraged other business owners | ||||||
| 6 | in the area as they built their businesses; always caring and | ||||||
| 7 | smiling, he was a regular at Kevil's Restaurant in Forest Park, | ||||||
| 8 | where patrons looked forward to seeing him and Mary Ann; | ||||||
| 9 | affectionately known as "The High Roller," he also enjoyed | ||||||
| 10 | trips to Las Vegas with other store owners; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 12 | parents; his brothers, Elmer and Melvin; and his sister, | ||||||
| 13 | Sylvia; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Marv Abrahamson is survived by his companion of | ||||||
| 15 | nearly 40 years, Mary Ann Jurgus; his sons, Bruce and Terry; | ||||||
| 16 | his daughter-in-law, Vicki Lafer Abrahamson; his son-in-law, | ||||||
| 17 | David Branch; his grandsons, Joey, Sam, and Jake; and his | ||||||
| 18 | granddaughters, Charlotte and Jenny; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Marvin "Marv" Harold Abrahamson and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 22 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||

| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the family of Marv Abrahamson as an expression of | ||||||
