| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Janet L. Kaizer of Peoria, who passed |
| 4 | | away on October 28, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas to |
| 6 | | Richard and Eleanor (Mitchell) Cook on October 20, 1944; she |
| 7 | | graduated from Washington Community High School and received a |
| 8 | | music degree from the University of Illinois, where she studied |
| 9 | | with Soulima Stravinsky; she received her master's degree in |
| 10 | | music performance at Bradley University and completed course |
| 11 | | work toward her Ph.D. at Washington University in St. Louis; |
| 12 | | she married Edward Joseph "Ed" Kaizer in St. Louis in April of |
| 13 | | 1974; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer grew up playing country, jazz, and |
| 15 | | ragtime with her family; in 1984-85, she won the title of World |
| 16 | | Champion Old-Time Piano Player; she was a clarinetist in the |
| 17 | | Marching Illini (UIUC) and taught high school choir in |
| 18 | | Washington, Illinois; she performed with orchestras across the |
| 19 | | United States, Mexico, and Europe; she retired as Professor |
| 20 | | Emeritus from Bradley University; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer was an organist and pianist in the |
| 22 | | Peoria area for 53 years at St. Marks Church in Washington from |
|

| 1 | | 1960 to 1973, Salem Lutheran Church from 1975 to 1979, and the |
| 2 | | First United Methodist Church from 1979 to 2014; she provided |
| 3 | | her memorable music for church services, including marriages, |
| 4 | | baptisms, funerals, and anniversaries; she also served as the |
| 5 | | choir organist and pianist for the past 35 years; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer and Ed performed together all over |
| 7 | | the world; they enjoyed performing in their hometown, Peoria, |
| 8 | | and the surrounding areas at churches, schools, festivals, the |
| 9 | | Peoria Civic Center, and summer concerts at the Peoria Court |
| 10 | | House; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer was an active member of the Music |
| 12 | | Teachers National Association, both state and local chapters, |
| 13 | | Sigma Alpha Iota, the American Guild of Organists, the Central |
| 14 | | Illinois Jazz Society, the Musician Union, and Pi Kappa Lambda; |
| 15 | | and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer was preceded in death by her parents |
| 17 | | and her brother, Randy Cook; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Janet Kaizer is survived by her husband, Ed; her |
| 19 | | children, Edward (Lynn) Kaizer, Claire (Doug) Kasamis, John |
| 20 | | Kaizer, Laraine (Sasha) Kaizer-Viazovtsev, and Joseph Kaizer; |
| 21 | | and her grandchildren, Alex Kaizer, Drew (Caitlyn) Kaizer, Nick |
| 22 | | Kaizer, Jackson Kasamis, Lexi Kasamis, and Ella Kasamis; |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 4 | | Janet L. Kaizer and extend our sincere condolences to her |
| 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 6 | | further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Janet Kaizer as an expression of our |
| 9 | | deepest sympathy.
