2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Fred J. Paul, who passed away on January | ||||||
4 | 18, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul was born in Chicago to Henry and | ||||||
6 | Marie Paul and raised with his brothers Hank and Bernie; he | ||||||
7 | served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the | ||||||
8 | Korean War; upon his return, he married the love of his life, | ||||||
9 | Lucille Scaran, on June 6, 1953; Fred and Lucille were "like | ||||||
10 | two peas in a pod," always together; Fred, Lucille, and their | ||||||
11 | four children made their home, beginning in 1959, in Northlake; | ||||||
12 | he worked as a foreman at Classic Sheet Metal in nearby | ||||||
13 | Franklin Park; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul was very active in the community life | ||||||
15 | in Northlake and served in various government, political, and | ||||||
16 | civic affairs positions for 46 years; in 1971, he was appointed | ||||||
17 | to the Police and Fire commission and served five terms; he was | ||||||
18 | elected Alderman of two different wards in Northlake for a | ||||||
19 | total of 22 years; in 1997, he ran for City Treasurer as part | ||||||
20 | of Mayor Jeffrey T. Sherwin's slate; he held this office for 21 | ||||||
21 | years, up until his death, and published the "Dollars and | ||||||
22 | Sense" financial column, where he gave helpful tips and | ||||||
23 | information to his constituents; and

1 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul was a dedicated Northlake baseball | ||||||
2 | coach and is fondly remembered and greatly respected by the | ||||||
3 | players of his 1969 championship team; he was also a generous | ||||||
4 | donor and supporter of Seguin Services, a pioneering, | ||||||
5 | innovative, and inclusive approach to services for persons with | ||||||
6 | intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul was a wonderful patriarch and role | ||||||
8 | model who loved sports, especially the Chicago Bears, westerns, | ||||||
9 | comedies, and more than anything, his family; he greeted all he | ||||||
10 | knew with a smile and a joke that always picked up others' | ||||||
11 | spirits; he was respected as a family man with an open and | ||||||
12 | humble way about him; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul's record of civic engagement, serving | ||||||
14 | the residents of Northlake for 46 years, is unparalleled in the | ||||||
15 | city, and his contributions will be sorely missed; he was known | ||||||
16 | as "an excellent public servant who was always accessible to | ||||||
17 | his constituents and gave his best to the city"; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul was preceded in death by his loving | ||||||
19 | wife, Lucille; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Fred J. Paul is survived by his children, Mary Lou | ||||||
21 | (Jim) Miller, Patti Paul, Chris (the late Therese) Paul, and |

1 | Gina (Chris) Devers; his grandchildren, Matthew, Mallory, | ||||||
2 | Amanda, Gina, Jonathan, Zachary, Charlotte, Carrie, Marli, | ||||||
3 | Joshua, and Danny; his great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Adrian, | ||||||
4 | Kailee, Logan, Hannah, Leeah, Andi, Avery, and Mia; his many | ||||||
5 | nieces and nephews; and his many friends and admirers; | ||||||
6 | therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
9 | Fred J. Paul and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
10 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Fred J. Paul as an expression of our | ||||||
13 | deepest sympathy.
