SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jon Benjamin Oakleaf of Moline, who passed away on November 15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf was born in Moline to Joseph Benjamin and Janet Klein Rosenheim Oakleaf on July 18, 1939; he was educated at Moline schools and graduated from Moline Senior High School in 1957; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Augustana College in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Following his graduation, he worked with his father in the insurance business for several years; he enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and served with the 24th Psychological Warfare Detachment in the Central Highlands, Vietnam from 1965 until 1966; following his discharge from the Army, he worked with his father in residential construction; in 1969, he joined the staff of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline as a parish assistant, where he served for 33 years; and

WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf was involved with many local organizations, including the Moline Bicentennial Committee, the Rock Island County Historical Society, the Riverside Cemetery Trust Fund Endowment Board, the Board of Friendship Manor, the Moline Jaycees, the Quad Cities Archeological Society, and the WVIK Foundation Board; he enjoyed camping, cycling, local history, photography, small bore rifle competition, the study of and collection of American airguns, for which he was recognized as an authority, and other natural sciences; he enjoyed the study of genealogy and spent two summers in the Tobacco Root Mountains in Montana; and

WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf married Shirley Jean Anderson in Moline, and they later divorced; on August 8, 1987, he married Jane Weaver Masek in Moline; and

WHEREAS, Jon Oakleaf is survived by his wife, Jane; his sister, Joanne Alber; his nephews, Peter (Jenn) Alber, Brad (Sarah) Alber, and Michael Alber; his two great-nieces; and his three great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jon Benjamin Oakleaf and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan Oakleaf as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
