2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James J. "Jim" Albritton of Joliet, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 14, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was born in Peoria to Dorothy | ||||||
6 | (McGrath) and Fay Albritton on July 30, 1951; he was raised in | ||||||
7 | Joliet and attended St. Patrick Grade School and Joliet | ||||||
8 | Catholic High; his family moved to Brussels for several years, | ||||||
9 | and he graduated from the International High School of | ||||||
10 | Brussels; he earned a bachelor's degree from the College of St | ||||||
11 | Francis and graduated Summa Cum Laude; he was a veteran of the | ||||||
12 | United States Army and served during Vietnam; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Jim Albritton had a memorable career as a law | ||||||
14 | enforcement officer for the City of Joliet; he served as a | ||||||
15 | patrol officer from 1983 until 1994; he was a Lieutenant | ||||||
16 | Administrator from 1994 until 1998 and was promoted to Captain | ||||||
17 | in 1998, a position he held until his retirement in 2008; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was a member of the Loyal Order of | ||||||
19 | Moose Lodge #300, the BPOE Joliet Lodge #296, the Exchange | ||||||
20 | Club, the American Legion Post #1080, the Knights of Columbus | ||||||
21 | Council 12014, the Irish American Society of County Will, the | ||||||
22 | Merit Commission, and the Joliet Chamber of Commerce; he served |

1 | on the board of the Will County Center for Independent Living | ||||||
2 | and the Salvation Army, where he was a former president; he | ||||||
3 | founded "Shop with a Cop" to ensure all area kids had a bright | ||||||
4 | holiday season; he was elected to the Joliet Park District | ||||||
5 | Board and served as Commissioner; he enjoyed participating in | ||||||
6 | special events for the Prairie Trail Credit Union and serving | ||||||
7 | spaghetti annually for the Fraternal Order of Police; he will | ||||||
8 | be remembered for his friendly disposition, keen sense of | ||||||
9 | humor, and for always finding the time to help; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jim Albritton was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
11 | and his sisters, Anne Birong, Susan Worley, and Mary Jo Smith; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Jim Albritton is survived by his children, Kendra | ||||||
14 | Albritton and Devyn (Cory) Wingerter; his grandchildren, | ||||||
15 | Kendra Overstreet, Aidan Overstreet, Chase Wingerter, and | ||||||
16 | Madison Wingerter; his siblings, Lora Albritton and Robert | ||||||
17 | Smith; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | James J. "Jim" Albritton and extend our sincere sympathy to his | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
