2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ralph A. Nagel of Geneva, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on December 12, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ralph Nagel was born in St. Charles to William and | ||||||
6 | Mabel (Timm) Nagel on April 22, 1922; his character was forged | ||||||
7 | during the Great Depression, when he had to take on multiple | ||||||
8 | jobs to help support his family; despite the workload, he | ||||||
9 | earned top grades, played multiple sports, including halfback | ||||||
10 | for the lightweight team, and landed the lead role in his | ||||||
11 | school plays at St. Charles High School; he graduated in 1940 | ||||||
12 | and then married Mary Ann Shewalter; during World War II, he | ||||||
13 | enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in San | ||||||
14 | Diego, California, where he served as an electrician's mate; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, After his service in the Navy, he made a living | ||||||
17 | delivering milk for Oberweis Dairy and occasionally built | ||||||
18 | houses, many of which are still standing; in the early 1950s, | ||||||
19 | after an apprenticeship in Aurora, he started his own | ||||||
20 | typewriter repair business in the garage of his home; in 1959, | ||||||
21 | he moved his family to the east side of Geneva and opened | ||||||
22 | Valley Typewriter Company; for more than 40 years, he fixed and | ||||||
23 | sold typewriters, adding machines, copy machines, and |

1 | calculators from the basement of his home; his service area | ||||||
2 | reached to Chicago, Elgin, Aurora and all areas in between; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Ralph Nagel loved his family and the outdoors; he | ||||||
4 | enjoyed fishing and swimming and playing golf with his sons; he | ||||||
5 | and Mary Ann bought property and a cottage on Brandy Lake in | ||||||
6 | Woodruff, Wisconsin; he was kind, sentimental, and beloved by | ||||||
7 | animals, children, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and | ||||||
8 | caregivers; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Ralph Nagel was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
10 | Mary Ann; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Ralph Nagel is survived by his daughter, Tinya | ||||||
12 | (Bob) Craig; his sons, Jon and Rick (Paula) Nagel; his | ||||||
13 | sister-in-law, Diana Shewalter; his grandchildren, Andrew | ||||||
14 | Craig, Jamie (Rob) Fitzpatrick, and Kathryn and Tricia Nagel; | ||||||
15 | his five great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Ralph A. Nagel and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
