Amends the School Code. Provides that, for the Chicago School District only, a Safe Passage route employee must help each pupil walk or otherwise travel through a crosswalk. Provides that the help must not be limited to the employee only observing the pupil walk or travel through the crosswalk. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 29-4.5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/29-4.5 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 29-4.5. Safe Passage route. For a school district |
| 8 | | organized under Article 34 of this Code only, a Safe Passage |
| 9 | | route employee must help each pupil walk or otherwise travel |
| 10 | | through a crosswalk. This help must not be limited to the |
| 11 | | employee only observing the pupil walk or travel through the |
| 12 | | crosswalk.

| 13 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 14 | | becoming law.
