| 1 | AN ACT concerning education.
| ||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections | ||||||
| 5 | 10-20.69 and 34-18.61 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 10-20.69. Academic support services; at-risk student. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) In this Section, "at-risk student" means a student who | ||||||
| 9 | is at risk of dropping out of school because of his or her | ||||||
| 10 | individual academic needs and who requires temporary or ongoing | ||||||
| 11 | academic support services to achieve success in school. | ||||||
| 12 | (b) Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, each school | ||||||
| 13 | district must provide a parent or guardian of an at-risk | ||||||
| 14 | student information about appropriate and available | ||||||
| 15 | community-based or in-school academic support services. The | ||||||
| 16 | academic support services may include, but are not limited to, | ||||||
| 17 | any of the following: | ||||||
| 18 | (1) Individual or small-group tutoring. | ||||||
| 19 | (2) A summer school program. | ||||||
| 20 | (3) A mentoring program. | ||||||
| 21 | (4) Meeting with an academic advisor. | ||||||
| 22 | A school district shall not be responsible for any costs or | ||||||
| 23 | transportation associated with a student's participation in | ||||||

| 1 | community-based academic support services under this | ||||||
| 2 | subsection. | ||||||

| 23 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, | ||||||
| 24 | 2020.
