AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1695




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1695 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
4    "Section 5. The Legislative Commission Reorganization Act 
5of 1984 is amended  by adding Section 8A-60 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 130/8A-60 new)
7    Sec. 8A-60. State historic site.
8    (a)   The Architect of the Capitol, in cooperation with the 
9Secretary of State, shall place and maintain a historical 
10marker at a suitable location on the grounds of the Capitol 
11Complex. The marker shall commemorate and memorialize: (1) the 
12role of Illinois women in initiating the achievement of 
13nationwide voting equality within the United States of America; 
14and (2) the position of Illinois as the first state to ratify 
15the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legal 
16document that guaranteed votes for women without

1discrimination on account of sex.
2    (b)   Moneys from the Capitol Restoration Trust Fund may be 
3used to place and maintain the historical marker.
 

4    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
5becoming law.".
