| 1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Public Officer Prohibited Activities Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 4.1 as follows:

| 6 | | (50 ILCS 105/4.1 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 4.1. Official hiring self. |
| 8 | | (a) An elected or appointed official of a unit of local |
| 9 | | government many not hire or appoint himself or herself to a |
| 10 | | second position in the unit of local government if the second |
| 11 | | position is a salaried or hourly position. |
| 12 | | (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), the governing body of |
| 13 | | the unit of local government may hire or appoint an elected or |
| 14 | | appointed official to a second position in the unit of local |
| 15 | | government with a salary or hourly wages by ordinance or |
| 16 | | resolution if the ordinance or resolution states the salary or |
| 17 | | total compensation of an hourly position.

| 18 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 19 | | becoming law.
