AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3638




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3638, AS AMENDED, by 
3replacing everything after the enacting clause with the 
4following:

 
5    "Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Section 
62-3.176 as follows:
 
7    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.176 new)
8    Sec. 2-3.176. Vietnamese and Laotian American refugees and 
9the Cambodian genocide; resources.
10    (a) The State Board of Education must post on its website 
11resources that may be used by school districts to support 
12instruction in the Vietnamese and Laotian American refugee 
13experience that include, but are not limited to, the fall of 
14Saigon in 1975.  The resources may include writings and other 
15media that represent all perspectives of the Vietnamese and 
16Laotian refugee experience, including oral testimony by

1survivors, rescuers, and liberators of the Vietnam War, 
2including Vietnamese and Laotian American refugees, Vietnamese 
3boat people, and members of the Republic of Vietnam Armed 
4Forces.  The resources must be gathered by the State Board in 
5consultation with Vietnamese and Laotian American cultural 
6centers and community groups.
7    (b) The State Board of Education must post on its website 
8resources that may be used by school districts to support 
9instruction in the Cambodian genocide.  The resources may 
10include writings and other media that represent all 
11perspectives of the Cambodian genocide, including oral 
12testimony by survivors.  The resources must be gathered by the 
13State Board in consultation with Cambodian American cultural 
14centers and community groups.
 

15    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
16becoming law.".
