Amends the School Code. Requires a school board, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year and each school year thereafter, to collect data for the preceding school year and submit a report to the State Board of Education regarding student participation in computer science courses. Requires the report to include, along with other required information: (i) the total number of computer science courses offered in each school and whether these courses are advanced placement classes; (ii) the number and percentage of students who enrolled in a computer science program; and (iii) the number of computer science instructors at each school. Requires the report to be posted on the school district's website. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
| 5 | | 10-30 and 34-21.9 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-30 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-30. Computer science education report. With the |
| 8 | | goal to ultimately close the gender gap in the field of |
| 9 | | computer science, a school board, beginning with the 2020-2021 |
| 10 | | school year and each school year thereafter, shall collect data |
| 11 | | for the preceding school year and submit a report to the State |
| 12 | | Board of Education regarding student participation in computer |
| 13 | | science courses. The report shall be posted on the school |
| 14 | | district's website if the school district maintains a website. |
| 15 | | The report must include, but is not limited to, the following: |
| 16 | | (1) the total number of computer science courses |
| 17 | | offered in each school and whether these courses are |
| 18 | | advanced placement classes; |
| 19 | | (2) the number and percentage of students who enrolled |
| 20 | | in a computer science program, disaggregated by: |
| 21 | | (A) gender; |
| 22 | | (B) race and ethnicity; |
| 23 | | (C) special education status; |
