| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Because of the crimes committed against them, |
| 3 | | victims often suffer financial losses, in addition to emotional |
| 4 | | distress and physical injury; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Court costs and fees can amount to sums high |
| 6 | | enough that the defendant has no money left to pay restitution |
| 7 | | to the victim; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Victims can sometimes be overlooked in the court |
| 9 | | system that is meant to protect them; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ensuring that victims receive full restitution |
| 11 | | would ease the burden caused by the crime committed against |
| 12 | | them; therefore, be it
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 14 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 15 | | we urge restitution to be paid to the victim before any court |
| 16 | | or law imposed cost, fine, fee, assessment, or other payment by |
| 17 | | the defendant is paid; and be it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the Clerk of Court in each county of the State of |
| 20 | | Illinois.
