HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate #Boom magazine on the 
4occasion of the fifth anniversary of its founding in February 
52019; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, #Boom is a St. Louis-based news, advocacy, and

7community publication that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, 
8transgender,
queer (LGBTQ), and urban progressive audience; 
9and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, #Boom was founded in February 2014 by Colin 
11Murphy,
Kurt Ross, and Colin Lovett
and has built upon the rich 
12history of
independently owned LGBTQ media in St. Louis and the 
13Metro East that
began with the publication of Mandrake in 1970; 
14and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, #Boom's mission is to provide a LGBTQIA+ media 
16suite
serving the St. Louis Metro and surrounding areas, with a 
17focus on
community and their perspectives on national, 
18regional, and local
stories; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, #Boom is a member of the Gateway Business Guild 
20and
a certified LGBT Business Enterprise through the National 
21Gay &
Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; and

1    WHEREAS, #Boom has been honored by the NLGJA, The 
2Association
of LGBTQ Journalists, for excellence in coverage; 
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, #Boom was the first media company in the nation 
5and
the second in world to migrate to the .lgbt top level 
6domain; and
 
  
7    WHEREAS, #Boom is celebrating its 5th anniversary of 
8serving
the Metro East and Southern Illinois LGBTQ community; 
9therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we congratulate #Boom magazine on its fifth anniversary, and we 
13wish it many more successful years; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to #Boom as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
