HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to commend Derrick Harden for his service 
4to the College of Lake County and the community; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Derrick Harden currently serves as the Chief of 
6Staff to the President for the College of Lake
County (CLC) and 
7as the Acting Dean of the Lakeshore Campus; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Derrick Harden joined the College of Lake County 
9(CLC) in 2012; during his tenure, he has been instrumental in 
10getting State and
national recognition for diversity and 
11inclusivity initiatives; he has worked to bring more academic 
12offerings and programs
to the CLC, and, in the fall of 2019, 
13the CLC will be  breaking ground on a new state
of the art 
14campus in downtown Waukegan; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, In February of 2018, Derrick Harden was given the 
16assignment of revitalizing the Lakeshore Campus of the CLC; he 
17has re-energized the advisory council with new members and a 
18focus on building
positive, collaborative community relations 
19specific to student engagement and success
initiatives; at the 
20same time in his role as Chief of Staff, he is overseeing the 
21college's
strategic planning process and the upcoming 50th 
22anniversary celebration; and

1    WHEREAS, Derrick Harden will be honored at the 2019 Most 
2Influential African Americans of Lake County Awards sponsored 
3by the Chicago Peoples Voice; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Derrick Harden is
committed to the community 
5college mission of serving underrepresented students; he is 
6known as a visionary leader and outstanding professional who 
7remains engaged with those he serves; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we commend Derrick Harden for his service to the College of 
11Lake County and the community, and we wish him many more years 
12of success; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to Derrick Harden as a symbol of our respect and 
15esteem.
