HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John Xavier Rottman on being selected as Man of the Year by St. Cornelius Catholic Church's Holy Name Society; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman was born to Lucille and Francis Rottman on May 25, 1948, the younger brother to Tom and older brother to Nancy; he grew up on the northwest side of Chicago, spent his grade school years at St. Cornelius, and graduated in 1962; he graduated from Quigley Preparatory North Seminary in 1966 and began to study the monastic life at St. Bede Academy in Peru; however, he eventually decided that the seminary was not for him; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman fell in love with Candace "Candy" Patla, his sister Nancy's best friend, and they were married on May 27, 1973; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman joined the plumber's union in 1973 and worked for a few different contractors before joining the City of Chicago Water Department, where he worked until his retirement in 2005; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman and Candy raised four children, Tim, Mike, John, and Katie and continued to stay active at St. Thelca Parish; they were on the parish council, the liturgy committee, in the choirs, and managed the altar servers while their children attended the school; eventually, John decided to become a deacon; he started the diaconate program in 1998 and was ordained in May 2002; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman and Candy unofficially adopted many children; they hosted numerous exchange students over the years from Ireland, Spain, Mexico, and Columbia; they also accepted their kid's friends as children of their own; John still keeps close to those who have come through his life; and

WHEREAS, John Rottman and his family stayed at St. Thelca until 2014 when he was transferred to St. Cornelius; he has greatly enjoyed his time with the St. Cornelius parishioners throughout all the different activities and events; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Xavier Rottman on being selected as Man of the Year by St. Cornelius Catholic Church's Holy Name Society, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Rottman as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
