| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara |
| 4 | | A. Murphy of Glen Ellyn, who passed away on March 3, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Murphy was born on December 24, 1937 and |
| 6 | | grew up in Connecticut, where she attended Greenwich Academy; |
| 7 | | she attended Skidmore College in New York and settled in Glen |
| 8 | | Ellyn in 1962; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Murphy was the longest serving DuPage |
| 10 | | County Republican Chairwoman; she was dedicated to good |
| 11 | | government and the Republican Party; she began her career as a |
| 12 | | volunteer for Richard Nixon's campaign in California in 1960; |
| 13 | | she was the first woman to be elected as a Milton Township |
| 14 | | Trustee and the first woman to be elected as chairman of the |
| 15 | | Milton Township Republican Central Committee; she served under |
| 16 | | Secretaries of State George Ryan and Jesse White as a member of |
| 17 | | the Illinois Motor Vehicle Review Board; she was appointed to |
| 18 | | the Illinois Toll Highway Advisory Board by Governor Jim Edgar |
| 19 | | and served for five years; she was a state central |
| 20 | | committeewoman for the 6th Congressional District in the 1980s; |
| 21 | | most recently, she was on the boards of the DuPage Civic Center |
| 22 | | Authority and the DuPage County Domestic Violence Task Force; |
