HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting for the House of 
3Representatives to give special commendation to an individual 
4whose heroic actions  protected fellow officers and citizens in 
5a deadly situation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of June 13, 2017, 
7Jersey County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chris Jones responded to 
8an alarm call at D.J.'s Pub and Grill in Jerseyville; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, When Deputy Jones arrived on the scene, he joined 
10the other officers who were on foot in pursuit of the suspect; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Deputy Jones heard gunfire near the suspect and 
13another officer and immediately headed to assist; upon 
14arriving, he witnessed the other  officer being shot; Deputy 
15Jones returned fire, striking the suspect; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Deputy Jones moved to apprehend the suspect, who, 
17despite being shot, still resisted; Deputy Jones, along with 
18other officers, eventually subdued the suspect, who died at the 
19scene; the wounded officer was transported to the hospital and 
20survived his injury; and

1    WHEREAS, The selfless actions of Deputy Jones and his 
2fellow officers in the face of life-threatening danger to 
3themselves, undoubtedly kept the citizens of Jersey County 
4safe; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we commend Jersey County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chris Jones 
8for his heroic actions on June 13, 2017 that saved the life of 
9a fellow officer and stopped a dangerous suspect; and be it 
10further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Deputy Jones as a symbol of our respect and 
13esteem.
