| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dan Moy |
| 4 | | of Jacksonville, who passed away on March 19, 2019; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dan Moy was born in Jacksonville to Edward V. and |
| 6 | | Frances Shelton Moy on July 17, 1939; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Jacksonville High School in 1957; he continued his education at |
| 8 | | Western Illinois University and later received a master's |
| 9 | | degree in education from Fisk University in Nashville, |
| 10 | | Tennessee; he married Patricia "Patsy" Marie in Jacksonville on |
| 11 | | June 9, 1963; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Dan Moy inspired students and taught chemistry at |
| 13 | | Jacksonville High School for over 35 years; he also served as |
| 14 | | the head cross country coach, girls' track coach, and freshman |
| 15 | | football coach; he was a well-respected IHSA track official for |
| 16 | | 48 years and served as the official score keeper for the 1985 |
| 17 | | IHSA State Basketball Tournament; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dan Moy had an affinity for helping others; he |
| 19 | | founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle at |
| 20 | | Jacksonville High School and served as a patient ombudsman in |
| 21 | | area nursing homes; he also volunteered for the Salvation Army |
| 22 | | and Habitat for Humanity and served on the Wells Center Board |

| 1 | | of Directors from 1997 until 2003; he continued his love of |
| 2 | | running by organizing the 4th of July 5K Race at Nichols Park; |
| 3 | | he was an official judge for Illinois State Fair harness racing |
| 4 | | events, as well as the Iowa county fair circuit; he served as a |
| 5 | | member of the Police & Fire Commission for the City of |
| 6 | | Jacksonville and was a longtime member of the Jacksonville |
| 7 | | Children's Foundation Board of Directors; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedicated service to the |
| 9 | | community, Dan Moy was honored with the Unity in the Community |
| 10 | | Award in 2014 and was named the Kiwanis Lay Person of the Year |
| 11 | | in both 1983 and 2012; he was also named Man of the Year by both |
| 12 | | the YMCA and the Jacksonville Elks Club and was inducted into |
| 13 | | the Jacksonville High School Sports Hall of Fame; in 1995, he |
| 14 | | was inducted into the Illinois Track & Cross County Coaches |
| 15 | | Association Hall of Fame; in honor of his long service, |
| 16 | | volunteerism, and devotion to student athletes across Central |
| 17 | | Illinois, the Jacksonville High School Invitational Cross |
| 18 | | Country meet held in Community Park each fall was renamed the |
| 19 | | Dan Moy Invitational; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dan Moy was a member of Grace United Methodist |
| 21 | | Church; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Dan Moy is survived by his wife, Patsy; his |
| 23 | | children, Anne Marie Moy and Doug Moy; his grandchildren, Erin |
|

| 1 | | Ellet, Anna Moy, and Molly Moy; and his sister, Prudy Ballard; |
| 2 | | therefore, be it

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 4 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 5 | | we mourn the passing of Dan Moy and extend our sincere |
| 6 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 7 | | him; and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Dan Moy as an expression of our |
| 10 | | esteem and respect.
