HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Colin Dobson on the 
4publication of A Guide to Finding Birds Along the Illinois 
5River Flyway, an informative book to teach anyone the basics of 
6birdwatching in the Midwest; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Colin Dobson started birding at the age of seven; 
8over the past decade, he has logged thousands of hours in the 
9field; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Colin Dobson is widely known throughout the region 
11as being one of the most prolific birdwatchers in Illinois; he 
12has recorded 365 species in the State and over 330 in the 
13Illinois River Flyway region; his notes are considered to be 
14some of the most comprehensive records of the region over the 
15past decade; he can now identify 100 percent of the bird calls 
16along the Illinois River region; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Colin Dobson enjoys birdwatching because "all it 
18takes is being curious about your surroundings"; there are 
19between 150 and 200 bird species that can be spotted along the 
20Illinois River region from easily accessible locations, which 
21makes it an ideal place for someone to start birdwatching; and

1    WHEREAS, Colin Dobson and co-author Joseph Steensma, a 
2professor of practice at Washington University in St. Louis who 
3has been birding around the Illinois River Corridor for the 
4last 20 years, met on a birdwatching trip; they worked together 
5on the book throughout spring 2018; the guide was completed in 
6November and released on December 26, 2018; the guide helps 
7readers to hone their curiosity and notice birds that others 
8might not readily recognize; according to Joseph Steensma, 
9"Colin is a real genius; he's a real naturalist," and the two 
10enjoyed working together; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Colin Dobson is the son of Kenny and Dena and the 
12sister of Addie; he is a senior at Routt Catholic High School, 
13where he is an avid golfer and has advanced to the state golf 
14tournament twice; he will graduate in 2019 and plans to attend 
15the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; therefore, be 
16it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
19we congratulate Colin Dobson on the publication of A Guide to 
20Finding Birds Along the Illinois River Flyway and wish him 
21success in his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
23presented to Colin Dobson as an expression of our esteem and
