| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leon C. | ||||||
| 4 | Cosey Jr., who passed away on March 21, 2019; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. was born in Beulah, Mississippi to | ||||||
| 6 | Irene Alexander and L.C. Cosey on October 19, 1944; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated high school from the Nugent Center School in Benoit, | ||||||
| 8 | Mississippi; in 1966, he relocated to North Chicago, where he | ||||||
| 9 | met Cheryl Y. Toney, and they married on October 29 of that | ||||||
| 10 | year; in 1967, he committed to his faith and began a life of | ||||||
| 11 | service to his church and his community; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. left his career in the security | ||||||
| 13 | field to work in the ministry full time; he served in many | ||||||
| 14 | capacities, including the transportation ministry, the Deacon | ||||||
| 15 | Board, the ministerial staff, and the District Sunday School, | ||||||
| 16 | where he was also superintendent; he continued his education | ||||||
| 17 | with the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Trinity Assemblies | ||||||
| 18 | of God College, where he received his certificate of | ||||||
| 19 | completion, and Logos Bible College, where he received his | ||||||
| 20 | Bachelor of Ministry degree; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. established the Love Temple Church | ||||||
| 22 | of God in Christ on June 7, 1981, which eventually became the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Love Temple International Christian Center; he also | ||||||
| 2 | established the Taking it to the Street Ministry, the Love | ||||||
| 3 | Temple Bible College, the A Time to Love Ministry, the Love | ||||||
| 4 | Temple School of Ministry, and the Macedonia Call, later | ||||||
| 5 | renamed the Body of Christ No More Walls; he was also elected | ||||||
| 6 | president of the United Ministries of Christ and served for | ||||||
| 7 | over ten years; in September 2000, he was ordained an Apostle | ||||||
| 8 | of Jesus Christ and was made a member of the Apostolic Counsel | ||||||
| 9 | for Lake County, where he served until his death; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 11 | parents and one of his brothers; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. is survived by his wife, Cheryl Y. | ||||||
| 13 | Cosey; his children, Bonetha (Arlander) McGee Nelson, Mark A. | ||||||
| 14 | Cosey, Pastor Roland P. (Keisha) Cosey, Leon C. Cosey III, | ||||||
| 15 | Milana T. (Jesse) Cosey-Green, and MiToyia L. (Jordan) Cosey; | ||||||
| 16 | his brother, Bishop Wells (Trudy) Griffin; his 15 | ||||||
| 17 | grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his three | ||||||
| 18 | sisters-in-law; his two brothers-in-law; and his many nieces, | ||||||
| 19 | nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 21 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 22 | we mourn the passing of Leon C. Cosey Jr. and extend our | ||||||
| 23 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||

| 1 | and loved him; and be it further

| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this presentation be | ||||||
