| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Albert |
| 4 | | Yum-Chiu Wong, who passed away on March 8, 2019 at the age of |
| 5 | | 77; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong was born in Hong King to Wong |
| 7 | | Hing Lun and Tang Sue Fang on April 3, 1941; he showed a strong |
| 8 | | aptitude for learning at an early age and had a reputation as a |
| 9 | | gifted student when he attended Pui Ching Middle School; he |
| 10 | | received a scholarship for college that brought him to the |
| 11 | | United States; he graduated with honors from the University of |
| 12 | | California Berkeley with a degree in chemistry; he went on to |
| 13 | | pursue graduate studies in chemical physics at the University |
| 14 | | of Chicago as well as Chemical Engineering at Illinois |
| 15 | | Institute of Technology; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, While in Chicago, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong met |
| 17 | | Bernarda "Bernie" Lo and was so enraptured by her that he |
| 18 | | regularly traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to visit her while |
| 19 | | she attended Washington University; they married in Chicago in |
| 20 | | December 1968; they welcomed their only daughter, Jacinta, a |
| 21 | | few years later; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong had a passion for |

| 1 | | problem-solving and making businesses better; these skills led |
| 2 | | him to a wide variety of jobs, including pouch food processing, |
| 3 | | real estate, and owning a Chinese restaurant; he enjoyed |
| 4 | | strategizing and worked with Flying Food Fare in multiple |
| 5 | | positions, helping troubleshoot different projects; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong enjoyed playing ping pong, |
| 7 | | cooking, and helping Bernie with whatever she needed for the |
| 8 | | Chinese American Service League; in the last few years, they |
| 9 | | enjoyed traveling abroad and visiting extended family and |
| 10 | | friends around the world; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong is survived by his loving |
| 12 | | wife, Bernie; his daughter, Jacinta; his grandchildren, Tiana |
| 13 | | and Matthew; his sisters, Rosalind and Suzanna; and his |
| 14 | | brother-in-law, Peter; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 | | we mourn the passing of Albert Yum-Chiu Wong and extend our |
| 18 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 19 | | and loved him; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of Albert Yum-Chiu Wong as an |
| 22 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
