HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of volunteer firefighter Kody Michael Vanfossan of Christopher, who passed away while responding to a building fire on May 5, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan was born in Carbondale to Brent and Mindy Vanfossan on November 15, 1994; a third-generation firefighter, he joined the Christopher Fire Department as a cadet at the age of 16 and was a nine-year veteran; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan was employed by Nascote Industries in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan was known for his kind heart and willingness to help others; he had countless friends, both in and out of the fire service; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of and service to his community while responding to a six alarm fire with the Christopher Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Libero and Delphine Bartolotti, Mitch Wilkerson, Bob Adams, and Tom Vanfossan; and

WHEREAS, Kody Vanfossan is survived by his fiance, Casey Garret; his son, Erik Michael Vanfossan; his parents; his brother, Garrett Vanfossan; his sister, Paige Vanfossan; his grandparents, Gary and Kathy Bartolotti, Lisa Wilkerson, and Terena Kash; his great-grandmother, Doris Adams; his uncle, Michael (Susie) Bartolotti; and his many cousins, great-aunts, and great-uncles; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kody Michael Vanfossan and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kody Vanfossan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
