| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Hynes attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary |
| 6 | | and used his preparation for the priesthood as preparation for |
| 7 | | a political career; he graduated first in his class from Loyola |
| 8 | | Law School in 1963; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Long regarded as a Democratic powerhouse with |
| 10 | | national reach, Tom Hynes was elected State Senator in 1970; he |
| 11 | | was elected Senate President in 1977; two of his career |
| 12 | | highlights in Springfield were his chief sponsorship of the |
| 13 | | Equal Rights Amendment for women and his authoring of the |
| 14 | | Homeowners Property Tax Exemption; he chaired the Clinton/Gore |
| 15 | | presidential campaign in Illinois in 1996; he stepped down from |
| 16 | | his position on the Democratic National Committee in 2014; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Tom Hynes served as Democratic committeeman of the |
| 18 | | 19th Ward in Beverly for 31 years; he served as county assessor |
| 19 | | from 1978 until 1997; after retiring as assessor, he worked in |
| 20 | | private practice as a lawyer until 2015; and
