HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate K-9 Dax and Deputy John Forlenza of the Lake County Sheriff's Office on Dax being named K-9 of the Year by the K9s of Valor Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting K-9 officers across the country and keeping them safe by donating life-saving and essential equipment; and

WHEREAS, Dax and Deputy Forlenza were among the more than 100 nominated for the award and were nominated for their many successful tracks finding suspected criminals and residents in need of help; Dax received more than 9,500 votes from the community; and

WHEREAS, Dax's top accomplishments include finding a missing suicidal woman in the woods on a cold, rainy day and finding a domestic violence suspect who forced his way into a home and assaulted a woman before she was able to escape; in another case, Dax was punched by a robbery suspect, but he was still able to take down the suspect; and

WHEREAS, Dax and Deputy Forlenza are a perfect example of the great things that happen when there is a strong partnership between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve; from finding missing, endangered people or fleeing offenders to showing off their skills at community events, the K-9 team takes great pride in serving the Lake County Community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate K-9 Dax and Deputy John Forlenza on Dax being named K-9 of the year by the K9s of Valor Foundation, and we recognize their strong partnership with and service to the Lake County community and to the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Deputy John Forlenza and the Lake County Sheriff's Office as an expression of our esteem and respect.
