HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Today, there are only 71 living recipients of the Medal of Honor; these men are bound together by the medal they wear and by the shared passion to perpetuate its legacy of courage, sacrifice, and selfless service; the challenge is enormous and the window of opportunity is closing with the average age of a recipient being over 70; and

WHEREAS, The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019; over the last 20 years the foundation has created and launched education, recognition, and outreach programs that have informed millions of Americans about the values embodied in the Medal of Honor: courage and sacrifice, commitment and integrity, citizenship and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, Over the next 20 years, the foundation will focus on preserving the legacy of the Medal of Honor and the true American heroes who wear it; and

WHEREAS, The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation is commemorating its 20th anniversary by hosting the Salute to the Medal of Honor and Distinguished Citizens Award events in Chicago on June 6-8, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Distinguished Service Award is presented to exceptional Americans who exemplify leadership and service and inspire others by selflessly giving of time and talent to the community and nation; this year's honorees are the Crown Family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation on its 20th anniversary and wish them continued success inspiring others about the values embodied in the Medal of Honor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
