HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, There are over 350 specialized dentists, known as 
3endodontists, in Illinois; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Endodontists are dental experts who are 
5highly-skilled in diagnosing and treating tooth pain and 
6performing root canal treatment; they complete three years of 
7specialized training beyond dental school; additional training 
8focuses on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canal 
9treatment and other procedures relating to the interior of the 
10tooth; in many cases, a diseased tooth can be saved with 
11endodontic treatment; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Endodontists have incredible precision and 
13hand-eye coordination, making them highly skilled in 
14performing complex treatments; they use the most current and 
15advanced technology to treat dental patients; no one is better 
16at saving a patient's natural teeth; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Endodontists perform many other endodontic 
18treatments and surgeries, address traumatic dental injuries, 
19and place dental implants; their goal is to save a patient's 
20natural teeth whenever possible; however, an endodontist will 
21look at all treatment options to determine the best course of 
22action for each individual case; and

1    WHEREAS, Endodontists limit their practice solely to 
2endodontic treatments, performing an average of 25 root canal 
3treatments a week; specialized treatment will give patients the 
4best outcome, and they will heal faster; for this reason, 
5dentists and endodontists often work as partners in care so 
6that the best member of the dental team is handling each 
7appropriate issue with a patient's teeth; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Poor oral hygiene can lead to other health 
9problems; regular dental visits, flossing, brushing thoroughly 
10at least twice a day, and refraining from foods and habits that 
11can cause cavities are important steps for maintaining the 
12overall health of one’s gums, teeth, and mouth; therefore, be 
13it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
15HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we declare May 2019 as Save Your Tooth Month, recognize the 
17endodontists who are dedicated to saving patients' natural 
18teeth, and encourage citizens of Illinois to practice good oral 
19hygiene.
