HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mary Caprio on
the 
4occasion of her 90th birthday on May 23, 2019; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Caprio is a lifelong resident of Chicago's 
6Southwest Side and a graduate of Chicago's Gage Park
High 
7School; her love for and knowledge of her community are 
8unmatched; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Mary Caprio met the man who would become her 
10husband, Tony Caprio, while shopping at his shoe
store at 63rd 
11and Pulaski; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Over more than 50 years of marriage, Mary Caprio 
13and Tony operated Caprio's Shoes at that
same location, 
14becoming a fixture in the community; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Mary Caprio and Tony developed long-lasting 
16relationships within the community and through the
store, where 
17clientele ranged from neighbors to international celebrities, 
18including musicians Lawrence
Welk and Guy Lombardo and Nobel 
19Prize-winning physicist Enrico Fermi; polio victims who were

20outfitted at Caprio's Shoes with special shoes designed to aid 
21with balance continued to return
and visit the store decades

2    WHEREAS, Mary Caprio is celebrating her 90th birthday with 
3her niece and goddaughter Barbara Stark and
many other loved 
4ones; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we join with friends and loved ones in congratulating Mary 
8Caprio on her 90th birthday; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Mary Caprio as a symbol of our
respect and esteem.
