| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to commend St. Charles Fire Department |
| 4 | | Captain Darin Peterson on his heroic actions; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, On the evening of July 4, 2018, Captain Peterson |
| 6 | | was attending a fireworks display in Sheridan when the weather |
| 7 | | turned severe; lighting struck a tree approximately 30 feet |
| 8 | | away from him; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After the lightning strike, Captain Peterson |
| 10 | | noticed an adult male on the ground; he rushed to the man's aid |
| 11 | | and immediately began CPR before being joined by a paramedic; |
| 12 | | the 18-year-old man was in cardiac arrest as a result of the |
| 13 | | lighting strike; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Captain Peterson then heard a scream and noticed |
| 15 | | that a second individual, a four-year-old girl, had also been |
| 16 | | injured in the lighting strike; he went to the aid of the girl |
| 17 | | while the paramedic continued CPR on the man; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Captain Peterson found the girl unconscious; she |
| 19 | | was not breathing and did not have a pulse; he immediately |
| 20 | | started CPR and, after ten to 15 minutes of CPR, the girl began |
| 21 | | to have spontaneous respirations and a pulse; when the |
