HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to commend St. Charles Fire Department 
4Captain Darin Peterson on his heroic actions; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, On the evening of July 4, 2018, Captain Peterson 
6was attending a fireworks display in Sheridan when the weather 
7turned severe; lighting struck a tree approximately 30 feet 
8away from him; and
  
  
9    WHEREAS, After the lightning strike, Captain Peterson 
10noticed an adult male on the ground; he rushed to the man's aid 
11and immediately began CPR before being joined by a paramedic; 
12the 18-year-old man was in cardiac arrest as a result of the 
13lighting strike; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Captain Peterson then heard a scream and noticed 
15that a second individual, a four-year-old girl, had also been 
16injured in the lighting strike; he went to the aid of the girl 
17while the paramedic continued CPR on the man; and

  
 
18    WHEREAS, Captain Peterson found the girl unconscious; she 
19was not breathing and did not have a pulse; he immediately 
20started CPR and, after ten to 15 minutes of CPR, the girl began 
21to have spontaneous respirations and a pulse; when the

1ambulance arrived, he remained with the girl while she was 
2transported to Ottawa Hospital; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we commend St. Charles Fire Department Captain Darin Peterson 
6on his heroic actions that saved the lives of two people on 
7July 4, 2018; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Captain Peterson as an expression of our esteem 
10and respect.
