HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is committed to enforcing immigration laws to secure the border and keep the American people safe; and

WHEREAS, DHS is taking action to disrupt cartels, smugglers, human traffickers, terrorism, and bad actors; and

WHEREAS, These actions include referring and prosecuting illegal border crossings, strengthening the barrier along the border, and deploying the National Guard; and

WHEREAS, DHS is also working to close legal loopholes that have created policies that invite illegal immigration; and

WHEREAS, DHS Agents and National Guardsmen risk their lives and health to protect our country and citizens by working in often-dangerous situations; and

WHEREAS, Some elected officials have seen fit to trivialize and demean the hard work of DHS Agents and National Guardsmen for the sake of partisan politics; and

WHEREAS, This kind of partisanship does nothing to help move discussions on immigration policies in the right direction or to keep people safe; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we stand with the Department of Homeland Security and the National Guard as they continue to protect the border and keep the country safe; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we condemn unfounded attacks on government employees who are working hard to protect the border and condemn divisive partisanship from any elected official who seeks to undermine that work; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
