HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the First Presbyterian 
4Church of Danville on the occasion of its 190th anniversary; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church began with eight 
7members and, at one point, grew to over 1,100 members; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Reverend Enoch Kingsbury, the first pastor of the 
9church, developed a close and lasting relationship with Abraham 
10Lincoln as he rode the trails of the Eighth Judicial Circuit; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church has always been 
13actively engaged in efforts to forge partnerships with 
14organizations throughout the community aimed at improving the 
15lives of its fellow citizens and those less fortunate; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church has sponsored 
17missionaries both abroad and at home; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church is recognized as a 
19bedrock in the community, with a long history of providing 
20food, shelter, healthcare, comfort, and support to any and all

1who pass through its doors; therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
3HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we congratulate the First Presbyterian Church of Danville on 
5the occasion of its 190th anniversary and wish it many more 
6successful years; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to the First Presbyterian Church as an expression of 
9our esteem and respect.
