HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Coin Club on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, On February 14, 1919, the first official meeting of the Chicago Coin Club was called to order with 15 people and eight exhibits; attendees that evening could not have imagined that one hundred years later the minutes of that meeting would be viewed as such a milestone; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Coin Club originated from a group of dedicated numismatists who had previously been members of the then-dormant Chicago Numismatic Society and American Numismatic Association Branch #1 (A.N.A.#1) and was incorporated on January 19, 1938; and

WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Chicago Coin Club has continued to meet, celebrating numismatics in all aspects; on January 9, 2019, they held their 1200th meeting; and

WHEREAS, The motto of the Chicago Coin Club, Docendo Discimus "We Learn By Teaching", is celebrated at each club meeting with educational presentations, club member trip reports, and members show-and-tell of items from their personal collections or recent acquisitions; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Coin Club is one of the oldest numismatic clubs and is now celebrating its centennial anniversary with the objective "To pursue numismatic knowledge through the study and research of coins, currency, medals, tokens, and other related items and the sharing of this information through monthly meetings, dialogue, and the publication of literature; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Chicago Coin Club on its 100th anniversary, and we wish them many more wonderful years in the continued study and promotion of numismatics; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chicago Coin Club as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
