| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary's motto, Service Above Self, inspires |
| 7 | | members to provide humanitarian service, follow high ethical |
| 8 | | standards, and promote goodwill and peace in the world; and

| 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize the |
| 10 | | children of the world against polio; in 1988, the organization |
| 11 | | helped establish the Global Polio Eradication Initiative; |
| 12 | | partners in this initiative include the World Health |
| 13 | | Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and |
| 14 | | Prevention, UNICEF, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; |
| 15 | | and

| 16 | | WHEREAS, Since 1988, polio cases have dropped by 99.9 |
| 17 | | percent, and the world stands on the threshold of eradicating |
| 18 | | the disease; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Rotary is working to raise an additional $50 |
| 20 | | million per year, which would be leveraged for maximum impact |
| 21 | | by an additional $100 million annually from the Bill & Melinda |
