| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened by the passing of
Illinois State | ||||||
| 4 | Police Trooper Nicholas Hopkins, who lost his life in the line | ||||||
| 5 | of duty on August 23,
2019; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was born on March 24, 1986 in Red | ||||||
| 7 | Bud; he moved to
Waterloo, where he graduated from Waterloo | ||||||
| 8 | High School in 2004, and later, McKendree
University in | ||||||
| 9 | Lebanon; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins #6141 began his law enforcement | ||||||
| 11 | career as a cadet with
the Illinois State Police on June 1, | ||||||
| 12 | 2009; he graduated from the academy and was assigned to
| ||||||
| 13 | District 12 in Effingham; on August 1, 2013, he took an | ||||||
| 14 | assignment with the
Illinois State Police general criminal | ||||||
| 15 | unit; in November of 2013, he was assigned to District 11
| ||||||
| 16 | patrol in Collinsville; in February of 2016, he transferred to | ||||||
| 17 | the Metro East Police
Assistance Team, and in September of | ||||||
| 18 | 2017, he was assigned to Illinois State Police S.W.A.T.; in | ||||||
| 19 | 2018, he became a senior agent; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was closely involved in his | ||||||
| 21 | community, including as an active
member of the Life Community | ||||||
| 22 | Church, where he was recognized for his tireless discipline,
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | willingness to help others, and unassailable sense of humor; | ||||||
| 2 | and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 4 | paternal grandfather, Charles Hopkins;
his maternal | ||||||
| 5 | grandparents, John and Magdalen Janson; and his uncle and aunt, | ||||||
| 6 | Robert "Bob" and Mardell
Pelch; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hopkins is survived by his wife, Whitney | ||||||
| 8 | Hopkins; his children, Emma,
Evelyn, and Owen; his parents, | ||||||
| 9 | James and Verna Hopkins; his siblings, Valerie Dortch, Zack | ||||||
| 10 | Hopkins,
Emily Auffenberg, Gabe Hopkins, and Abby Hopkins; his | ||||||
| 11 | grandmother, Evelyn Hopkins; as well as aunts, uncles, one | ||||||
| 12 | niece, several nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we mourn the passing of Illinois State Police Trooper Nicholas | ||||||
| 16 | Hopkins and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
| 17 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Trooper
Hopkins as an expression of | ||||||
| 20 | our deepest sympathy.
