HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Kathryn Altadonna Kueper on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Kathryn Kueper was born at home in Sandoval to Sicilian immigrants Frank and Rosilia Altadonna on October 10, 1919; the eighth of nine children, she graduated from high school in 1935; she married Ralph Kueper in 1941; and

WHEREAS, Kathryn Kueper began working at her father's Red & White grocery store, the precursor to the small chain of Altadonna IGAs, after graduating from high school; she and her husband then owned, along with other family members, Kueper's Tavern in Carlyle; after the death of her husband in 1955, she raised her three children, Tom, Rosie, and Paul, on her own; she tended bar before selling her interest in the tavern; she worked at City Hall and then, for nearly 30 years, at the office of Dr. DuComb; and

WHEREAS, After retiring, Kathryn Kueper helped her daughter, Rosie, at the Corner Deli Rosie owned for ten years; she has enjoyed traveling and has visited Italy, Germany, Hawaii, the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, New Orleans, Niagara Falls, California, and New York; she has used her creative skills to make a quilt for each of her ten grandchildren and crochet afghans and dishcloths; when she is not reading, she plays cards or Yahtzee, listens to Frank Sinatra, and spends time with family; she lives independently and spends afternoons on the front porch, as family and friends visit daily for coffee, cards, and conversation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kathryn Altadonna Kueper on the occasion of her 100th birthday on October 10, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kathryn Kueper as an expression of our esteem and respect.
