| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Wesley L. |
| 4 | | "Wes" Barr Jr. of Springfield, who passed away on October 1, |
| 5 | | 2019; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Wes Barr was born on May 16, 1963; he lived in the |
| 7 | | former John Hay Homes housing project on the East Side of |
| 8 | | Springfield until he was 13; then, he worked at McDonald's and |
| 9 | | graduated from Southeast High School; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Wes Barr joined |
| 11 | | the United States Marines and then served as a correctional |
| 12 | | officer at the Sangamon County Jail and as a police officer in |
| 13 | | the communities of Loami, Illiopolis, and Chatham; he joined |
| 14 | | the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office in 1991; he was elected as |
| 15 | | a trustee for Prairie Creek Township in 2009 and 2013; he |
| 16 | | served as Sangamon County Sheriff from 2014 until 2018; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Wes Barr and his wife, Sherry, served with several |
| 18 | | charitable and community organizations, including Contact |
| 19 | | Ministries, the Illinois Capital Area Chapter of the American |
| 20 | | Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the United Cerebral Palsy |
| 21 | | Fund, and the Springfield Park District Foundation Board; in |
| 22 | | 2007, he was named First Citizen by The State Journal Register |
