HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of AnnaMarie McCall, who passed away on October 2, 2019; and

WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was born in Chicago during the Great Depression to Milan and Anna (Kaviak) Smiljanic; she attended Peck Elementary School, Eli Whitney Elementary School, and Cameron Elementary School; during her grade school years, she was double-promoted three separate times; she went on to attend Austin High School in Chicago; she attended business school and married Thomas McCall, a sailor in the U.S. Navy who became a Chicago police officer; and

WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall worked for Time Life Magazine, the Bodine Electric Company, and Grey Van Lines; she returned to school and earned an associates degree in liberal arts from Wilbur Wright Junior College; she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Chicago Teachers College and became a teacher with the Chicago Public Schools; she was one of the original teachers in the Chicago Child Parent Centers, a program for children from preschool through third grade; and

WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall discovered she had a deep passion for working in early education with disadvantaged children; she earned two master's degrees from DePaul University, one in guidance and counseling and a second in special education; she retired after spending her entire career with the Chicago Public School system; and

WHEREAS, During retirement, AnnaMarie McCall enjoyed traveling; she embarked on several trips to England, one upon which she returned to the U.S. aboard the Queen Elizabeth II; she took numerous cruises around the U.S. and traveled to Egypt, where she visited the pyramids and sailed the Nile River; one of her most enjoyable trips involved a train journey starting in Chicago, traveling to the East Coast, and from there boarding the Queen Elizabeth II, which sailed south through the Panama Canal to Mexico then to the West Coast, before returning to Chicago aboard Amtrak; and

WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was a member of the Maine Township Mainstreamers Advisory Council and the Suburban Area Agency on Aging; she was the advisor council secretary for the Des Plaines Friends of the Library and the treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Showmen's League of America; she was a Silver Representative in the National Silver Haired Congress; and

WHEREAS, AnnaMarie McCall was the widow of the late Thomas (CPD); the beloved mother of Linda Gonzales (retired CPD); the grandmother of Marc Harrison, David (Alba) Gonzales, Phillip Gonzales, and Robin Gonzales (CPD); and the great-grandmother of Mariano Garcia III, Evan Gonzales, Anthony Garcia, Harper Gonzales, David Gonzales Jr., Jocelyn Gonzales, and Isabella Gonzales; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of AnnaMarie McCall and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of AnnaMarie McCall as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
