HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, St. John Neumann Catholic School in Maryville 
3strongly supports STEM
education by encouraging students to 
4participate on the Scrambled Gears Robotics Team; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Scrambled Gears Robotics Team has 
6continuously competed at an international
level and was 
7nominated for the Global Innovation Award in 2018 in the FIRST 
8LEGO League; and
  
 
  
9    WHEREAS, On February 28, 2019, the Scrambled Gears Robotics 
10Team applied for a patent on their
invention of the WaterSpark, 
11a hydroelectric generator that uses rainwater to charge small

12electronics and can be used as an emergency power source 
13globally in regions with an unreliable
electric grid; and
  
 
  
14    WHEREAS, The patent for the Scrambled Gears Robotics Team's 
15WaterSpark became publicly available
on September 5, 2019, and 
16the students are continuously working toward new initiatives, 
17such as
finding solutions to mobility barriers that prevent 
18wheelchairs from going over uneven terrains; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we congratulate Coach Karen
Conness and the Scrambled Gears
