| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Terry L. Miller | ||||||
| 4 | on receiving the 2019 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from | ||||||
| 5 | the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
| 7 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
| 8 | settings, especially with the high percentage of older adults | ||||||
| 9 | living in rural America and small towns; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller graduated from the Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 11 | University School of Medicine in 1989; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller completed his residency in family | ||||||
| 13 | practice at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at | ||||||
| 14 | Rockford in 1992; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is a veteran and served our country for | ||||||
| 16 | over 14 years in the U.S. Army, both on active duty where he | ||||||
| 17 | spent part of his time in Honduras and in the Reserve; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's began his professional career in the | ||||||
| 19 | rural health arena with FHN Memorial Hospital in 1992 and has | ||||||
| 20 | continued to serve patients in the region for the past 26 | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | years; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is extremely committed to ensuring the | ||||||
| 3 | upmost quality of care to veterans and volunteers, acting as | ||||||
| 4 | the physician for any newly admitted veterans at the area's | ||||||
| 5 | local nursing home; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller is always a phone call away and often | ||||||
| 7 | makes his rounds seven days a week; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's commitment to the community extends | ||||||
| 9 | beyond medicine; he has been an active Boy Scout Leader for | ||||||
| 10 | over 20 years, often holding the meetings in the clinic's lobby | ||||||
| 11 | and spending part of his summer vacation as a volunteer | ||||||
| 12 | physician at the National Boy Scout Jamboree; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, While Dr. Miller's hectic schedule may not allow | ||||||
| 14 | him to go on a jungle safari, one of his favorite activities is | ||||||
| 15 | being able to spend time at the zoo with his family; therefore, | ||||||
| 16 | be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we congratulate Dr. Terry L. Miller on receiving the 2019 Rural | ||||||
| 20 | Physician of Excellence Award and commend him for his | ||||||
| 21 | compassion and dedication to his patients and for filling such | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | a tremendous void in rural medicine over the past 26 years; and | ||||||
| 2 | be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to Dr. Miller as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
