| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to
learn of the death of Celestine | ||||||
| 4 | "Bunchie" Jakes of Chicago, who passed away on January 9, 2020; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes was born on January 11, 1947 in | ||||||
| 7 | Wabash, Arkansas to Reverend Johnnie James Sr. and Callie | ||||||
| 8 | Jakes; she was the youngest of ten siblings and was very close | ||||||
| 9 | to all of them; she graduated from Lake View High School in | ||||||
| 10 | 1965, and as an adult, she moved to Chicago where she joined | ||||||
| 11 | Liberty Baptist Church; while living in Los Angeles, | ||||||
| 12 | California, she was a member of the First New Christian Church, | ||||||
| 13 | and she currently was part of the faith family of West Point | ||||||
| 14 | Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes was a loving daughter, a caring | ||||||
| 16 | sister, and a loyal friend; the true pride and joy of her life | ||||||
| 17 | was to be a warm, faithful, devoted, compassionate, and | ||||||
| 18 | dedicated mother, and she was the archetype of how a parent | ||||||
| 19 | should care for a child; she offered her children the best | ||||||
| 20 | love, compassion, discipline, devotion, and faithfulness a | ||||||
| 21 | parent could offer; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes lived her life well and died | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes is preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 3 | parents, Johnnie James Sr. and Callie Jakes; her sisters, Betty | ||||||
| 4 | Chapman, Cora Dandredge, and Margaret Sledge; and her brothers, | ||||||
| 5 | Pastor Paul L. Jakes Sr. and Johnnie James Jakes Jr.; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Celestine Jakes is survived by her children, | ||||||
| 7 | LaChrisia Nannette Jakes, Dr. LaShawn Bernard Jakes (Carole), | ||||||
| 8 | Davionne Brown Jakes, Quincy B. Banks, Pastor Delbert Earl | ||||||
| 9 | Wright, Dr. Charley Hames Jr., and Dr. S. Todd Yeary; her | ||||||
| 10 | grandchildren, Reginald Reed (Sharena), Brandon Jakes, and | ||||||
| 11 | Erika Jakes; her sisters, Elizabeth James, Sallie Pearl | ||||||
| 12 | Sanders, and Callie Beatrice Adams; and her brother, E. Willie | ||||||
| 13 | Jakes; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we mourn the passing of
Celestine "Bunchie" Jakes and extend | ||||||
| 17 | our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who | ||||||
| 18 | knew and loved
her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Celestine Jakes as an expression of
| ||||||
| 21 | our deepest sympathy.
