| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Bound to Stay Bound Books |
| 4 | | on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound is a third generation family |
| 6 | | owned business in Jacksonville; currently led by Robert L. |
| 7 | | "Bob" Sibert, its primary mission is to provide the best |
| 8 | | juvenile books, media products, and related services to the |
| 9 | | libraries of North America, as closely matched to their needs |
| 10 | | as possible and as economically as possible; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound's story began in 1920 when |
| 12 | | Lawrence D. Sibert and William Suhy founded New Method Book |
| 13 | | Bindery on the second floor of 220 South Main in Jacksonville, |
| 14 | | the former location of Degan's Dance Hall; it expanded and |
| 15 | | moved to 201 South Kosciusko in 1923; New Method acquired Ward |
| 16 | | Brothers Bindery in 1937; the business evolved into |
| 17 | | Hertzberg-New Method in 1953; it moved to its current location |
| 18 | | at 1880 West Morton Avenue in 1959; the company became Bound to |
| 19 | | Stay Bound Books in 1970, based on a book by Melvin Summerfield |
| 20 | | that it had published in 1956; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound has given back to the |
| 22 | | community in a number of ways; it began a librarian scholarship |
|

| 1 | | in 1984, providing financial assistance for the education of |
| 2 | | men and women who intend to pursue an MLS or advanced degree |
| 3 | | and who plan to work in the area of library service to |
| 4 | | children; it began offering Illinois College scholarships for |
| 5 | | employees in 1998; it has sponsored and provided travel grants |
| 6 | | for a number of conferences and programs led by the American |
| 7 | | Association of School Librarians (AASL); and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Bound to Stay Bound and its owners have been the |
| 9 | | recipients of numerous awards and honors over its long history, |
| 10 | | including the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce's Industry |
| 11 | | of the Year Award in 1990, the Illinois State Board of |
| 12 | | Education's Business-Education Partnership Program Honorable |
| 13 | | Mention in 1998, the American Association of School Librarians' |
| 14 | | Crystal Apple Award in 2004 and 2015, the Jacksonville Area |
| 15 | | Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award in 2007, the |
| 16 | | Educational Book & Media Association's 3rd Jean Srnecz Award in |
| 17 | | 2017, the Association of Illinois School Library Educators' |
| 18 | | Pillar Award in 2018, and the Illinois State Historical |
| 19 | | Society's Centennial Business Award in 2019; therefore, be it

| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 21 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 | | we congratulate Bound to Stay Bound Books on its one hundred |
| 23 | | years of service to the libraries across North America; and be |
| 24 | | it further
