HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Piekarski on the 
4occasion of his retirement; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski joined the Chicago and North 
6Western Transportation Company in 1973; he worked as a clerk 
7and brakeman and was then promoted to locomotive engineer in 
81975; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski became a member of  the Brotherhood 
10of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) in 1974; he became 
11president of BLET Division 683 in 1989 and worked through the 
12ranks of BLET's state legislative board to become chairman in 
132010; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, In 2014, Paul Piekarski was elected as a National 
15Alternate Legislative Vice President for BLET; in 2017, he was 
16elected chair of the National Association of State Legislative 
17Board Chairmen; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, in 2019, Paul Piekarski successfully worked for 
19the passage of legislation in the Illinois General Assembly 
20requiring a two person crew in locomotives; and

1    WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski has tirelessly supported and 
2fought for labor and rail safety on the local, State, and

3federal levels; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Paul Piekarski on his retirement, and we wish 
7him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Paul Piekarski as a symbol of our respect and 
10esteem.
