| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives wishes to |
| 3 | | congratulate MacNeal Hospital (MacNeal) in Berwyn on receiving |
| 4 | | the 2019 George A. Ashby Award for Business Excellence from the |
| 5 | | Berwyn Development Corporation; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The George W. Ashby Award for Business Excellence |
| 7 | | is a local honor named after one of Berwyn's
distinguished |
| 8 | | early architects; the award is given annually to one |
| 9 | | Berwyn-based business
that presents a professional and |
| 10 | | favorable image to Berwyn, provides quality goods or services,
|
| 11 | | maintains a visually appealing space, and practices |
| 12 | | high-quality customer service to its patrons; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1919, Dr. Arthur MacNeal launched a small |
| 14 | | practice from the living room of his unassuming, ten-room
|
| 15 | | residence in Berwyn; he quickly outgrew his residence and
broke |
| 16 | | ground on a three-story building just a few miles north; by the |
| 17 | | 1940s, MacNeal Hospital was the city's top employer; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, As equal parts employer and consumer, the hospital |
| 19 | | ushered in a
wealth of opportunity and development for Berwyn |
| 20 | | and the surrounding communities in Chicago's
western suburbs; |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, MacNeal instituted the first department |
| 2 | | of family practice residency program in Illinois; this
program |
| 3 | | helped train future family physicians and also established |
| 4 | | MacNeal as a teaching
hospital; today, as a member of Trinity |
| 5 | | Health and Loyola Medicine, the family practice residency
|
| 6 | | program is just one of many educational programs offered at |
| 7 | | MacNeal; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Opened in 1964, the coronary care unit at MacNeal |
| 9 | | has leading-edge technology, state-of-the
art facilities, |
| 10 | | advanced diagnostics, and provides minimally invasive |
| 11 | | procedures; the coronary care unit helped earn MacNeal a spot |
| 12 | | as one of IBM
Watson Health's top 50 cardiovascular hospitals |
| 13 | | for the past two years; MacNeal maintains its top 50 ranking by |
| 14 | | always pursuing
better, more advanced ways to care for |
| 15 | | patients, their hearts, and their overall well-being; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, MacNeal is nationally recognized for its |
| 17 | | dedication to stroke education, prevention, and recovery; |
| 18 | | MacNeal's
Primary Stroke Center, which has served patients for |
| 19 | | over ten years, has received the Joint
Commission Gold Seal of |
| 20 | | Approval and the American Heart Association/American Stroke |
| 21 | | Association
Stroke Gold Plus Quality Award; these awards are |
| 22 | | testaments to the comprehensive care and rehabilitation |
| 23 | | services
MacNeal offers its patients throughout the recovery |
| 24 | | process; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Since 2018, Loyola Medicine and MacNeal have been |
| 2 | | proud sponsors of one of the community's largest
signature |
| 3 | | events, Berwyn's Oktoberfest; in 2019,
MacNeal celebrated 100 |
| 4 | | years of serving Berwyn and the surrounding communities; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, MacNeal has been providing |
| 6 | | exceptional medical
services to patients while cultivating |
| 7 | | leaders in healthcare and education; therefore, be it
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 9 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 10 | | we congratulate MacNeal Hospital on receiving the 2019 George |
| 11 | | A. Ashby Award for Business Excellence; and be it further
|
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 13 | | presented to MacNeal Hospital as an expression for our esteem |
| 14 | | and respect.
