| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Roy C. |
| 4 | | Verner Sr. of Chicago, who passed away on February 3, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. was born in Oran, Missouri to Rosie |
| 6 | | Lee Edwards and Scott Verner on August 20, 1929; he attended |
| 7 | | school in Missouri until the age of 12; he then moved to |
| 8 | | Chicago; he married Celestine on November 22, 1947; they had |
| 9 | | five children, Sandra, Janice, Loyd, Rose, and Roy C. Verner |
| 10 | | Jr.; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. worked at the Rose Packing Company |
| 12 | | for 35 years, working his way up to master butcher; while |
| 13 | | there, he represented his union; he also worked over 13 years |
| 14 | | for Pinkerton Security at Mount Sinai Hospital; for his strong |
| 15 | | work ethic and fairness, he received numerous awards and |
| 16 | | certificates of recognition from employers; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Roy Verner Sr. was a warm, trusting, hardworking, |
| 18 | | smart, and strong man loved by all who knew him; he committed |
| 19 | | to his faith at an early age; alongside his wife, Roy Verner |
| 20 | | Sr. was known for hosting the annual, weekend-long family |
| 21 | | reunion in Chicago during August, after years of reunions at |
| 22 | | the family homestead in Missouri; and
|
