| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Neighborhood Housing | ||||||
| 4 | Services on 45 years of serving as advocates for economic | ||||||
| 5 | inclusion and working to close the racial wealth gap through | ||||||
| 6 | homeownership; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services believes decent, | ||||||
| 8 | safe, and affordable housing is a human right, part of the | ||||||
| 9 | American dream, and should be available to all; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services has leveraged the | ||||||
| 11 | expertise of many, working with residents, community | ||||||
| 12 | organizations, and corporate partners to renew neighborhoods | ||||||
| 13 | and rehabilitate homes throughout the entire Chicago | ||||||
| 14 | metropolitan area and Cook County; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services helps first-time | ||||||
| 16 | homebuyers through homebuyer education, down payment | ||||||
| 17 | assistance programs, and affordable mortgage options; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services provides support | ||||||
| 19 | and financial guidance to those suffering under the crushing | ||||||
| 20 | burden of student loan debt; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services is committed to | ||||||
| 2 | helping working families strengthen their neighborhoods | ||||||
| 3 | through community building, real estate development, and | ||||||
| 4 | housing policy; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services realizes that many | ||||||
| 6 | have suffered due to discriminatory practices and imbalanced | ||||||
| 7 | lending practices, particularly in some of the most challenged | ||||||
| 8 | areas, and that these practices contribute significantly to the | ||||||
| 9 | persistent racial wealth gap that Neighborhood Housing | ||||||
| 10 | Services seeks to eliminate; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Housing quality serves as a visual and tangible | ||||||
| 12 | indicator of the health of a community and represents one of | ||||||
| 13 | the largest assets a neighborhood can cultivate and develop; | ||||||
| 14 | and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Homeownership brings stability to neighborhoods | ||||||
| 16 | decimated by decades of divestment; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services is at the forefront | ||||||
| 18 | of creating the next generation of affordable single family | ||||||
| 19 | homes designed to accommodate the ever-changing needs of | ||||||
| 20 | today's families while being conscious of the environmental | ||||||
| 21 | responsibilities and challenges of the future; therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 2 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 3 | we congratulate Neighborhood Housing Services on 45 years of | ||||||
| 4 | advocating for economic inclusion and working to close the | ||||||
| 5 | racial wealth gap through home ownership, and we wish them many | ||||||
| 6 | more successful years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to Neighborhood Housing Services as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 9 | respect and esteem.
