HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Kayla Stenstrom on receiving an Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award from the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE); and

WHEREAS, The IACTE Outstanding Beginning Teacher Awards is an annual event in its 8th year, which provides an opportunity for colleges and universities in the State of Illinois to nominate and showcase teacher graduates who represent the essential work that teachers do; and

WHEREAS, Kayla Stenstrom graduated from Lewis University in December 2017; while there, she was known for her supportive and collaborative stance, being a student whom other students came to for advice and feedback on their academic work and field work; and

WHEREAS, Following her graduation, Kayla Stenstrom joined the faculty at Irving Elementary School in Berwyn; she has been a kindergarten co-teacher for the past two years; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her classroom duties, Kayla Stenstrom is also a math core leader, check-in/check-out mentor, the Arts Club co-facilitator, and a union representative; she was a presenter at the 2019 Metro-Chicago Math Initiative Summer Institute; and

WHEREAS, Through her work ethic, Kayla Stenstrom has communicated to her peers and faculty that she thinks deeply and critically about issues in education; she is noted for being a consummate reflective practitioner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kayla Stenstrom on receiving the IACTE Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kayla Stenstrom as an expression of our esteem and respect.
