2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lynette | ||||||
4 | Ann Harrell-Flowers of Chicago, who passed away on February 23, | ||||||
5 | 2020; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers was born in Chicago to | ||||||
7 | Vernon and Eileen Harrell on August 18, 1965; she attended | ||||||
8 | Chicago Public Schools and Stagg Grammar School; she graduated | ||||||
9 | from Simeon Vocational High School; she married Louis S. | ||||||
10 | Flowers on April 23, 1994, and she became the proud stepmother | ||||||
11 | to LaTrice, Louis, Sandra, and Delisa; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers worked as an | ||||||
13 | administrative assistant for the Cook County State's | ||||||
14 | Attorney's office in the Child Support Division from July 1985 | ||||||
15 | until her retirement in June 2016; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, A breast cancer survivor, Lynette Harrell-Flowers | ||||||
17 | became an advocate, supporting initiatives around breast | ||||||
18 | cancer awareness and research for a cure; she participated in | ||||||
19 | and supported a variety of walks, marches, and fundraisers; | ||||||
20 | through this journey, she formed a lifetime bond with fellow | ||||||
21 | survivors who became affectionately known as "The | ||||||
22 | Butterflies"; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers committed to her faith at | ||||||
2 | an early age and became a member of Zion Hill Missionary | ||||||
3 | Baptist Church; she became an active member of Salem Baptist | ||||||
4 | Church in 1994; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers enjoyed spending time | ||||||
6 | with her family, especially her grandchildren, and with her | ||||||
7 | dogs, CoCo and Sonny; she also enjoyed gardening, reading, | ||||||
8 | traveling, watching movies, and being the first lady of | ||||||
9 | Chi-Town Exotic Corvette Club; she will forever be known for | ||||||
10 | her beautiful spirit, bright smile, soft-spoken words, and kind | ||||||
11 | personality; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers was preceded in death by | ||||||
13 | her parents; her sister, Vernona Harrell; her brothers, Kenneth | ||||||
14 | Harrell and Vernon Harrell; and her brothers-in-law, Thomas | ||||||
15 | Hiner, Willie Flowers, and Dan Coutee; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers is survived by her | ||||||
17 | husband, Louis Flowers; her daughters, LaTrice Phillips, | ||||||
18 | Sandra (Terrance) Roberts, and Delisa Singleton; her son, Louis | ||||||
19 | (Ebony) Jefferies; her granddaughters, Nadja, Skyla, Anya, | ||||||
20 | Mia, Nia, Abrianna, Trinity, Ebony, and Terryn; her grandson, | ||||||
21 | Jabari; her sister, Valerie Gordon; her brother, David | ||||||
22 | (Denitra) Harrell; her mother-in-law, Lula Flowers; her uncle, |

10 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
11 | we mourn the passing of Lynette Ann Harrell-Flowers and extend | ||||||
12 | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who | ||||||
13 | knew and loved her; and be it further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of Lynette Harrell-Flowers as an | ||||||
16 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
