HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Fifty years ago, 20 million people peacefully 
3demonstrated in favor of environmental reform and demanded that 
4government protect the health of our people; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Earth Day 1970 is among the largest civic 
6engagement events in human history; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, April 22, 2020 is this year's Earth Day and marks 
8the 50th anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental 
9movement; and
  
 
  
10    WHEREAS, The students of Half Day School in Lincolnshire 
11will stand in solidarity with environmental activists 
12throughout the world by organizing an Earth Day March on April 
1322, 2020 at 3:30pm, starting at the Vernon Area Public Library 
14and ending at the old Fresh Market parking lot; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, At the end of the march, the students of Half Day 
16School will hold a rally focused on protecting the environment; 
17they will collect reusable and recyclable items such as plastic 
18grocery bags, markers and crayons, old toothbrushes and empty 
19toothpaste tubes, old t-shirts and thread, and usable pairs of 
20shoes; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
3we commend the students of Half Day School for organizing an 
4Earth Day March and for their eagerness and willingness to make 
5a positive difference in the world; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to Half Day School as a symbol of our esteem and 
8respect.
