HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, During 2020, the University of St. Francis will 
3celebrate 100 years of preparing women and men to contribute to 
4the world through service and leadership and of being a 
5cornerstone of the Joliet community; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The University of St. Francis was established in 
71920 by the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of 
8Mary Immaculate for the education of its own members; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Under the name Assisi Junior College, the doors of 
10the University of St. Francis were opened to women outside the 
11congregation in 1925; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, A senior college curriculum was established and a 
13new name, the College of St. Francis, was adopted in the fall 
14term of 1930; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The College of St. Francis became coeducational in 
161971; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The institution became the University of St. 
18Francis on January 1, 1998; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Each year, the students of the University of St.

1Francis continue doing works of mercy within Illinois, 
2including feeding the homeless, aiding the sick, clothing the 
3naked, visiting the imprisoned, and teaching the young; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, University of St. Francis alumni act as 
5instruments of peace, contributing their time, talent, and 
6treasure in service and leadership, building both civic and 
7religious communities of welcome; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, For 100 years, the State of Illinois and the 
9University of St. Francis have benefited from one another, 
10growing together in both reputation and achievement in a 
11partnership that has enriched the lives of those who work in 
12and call Illinois home; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
14HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate the University of St. Francis on its centennial 
16anniversary and on its significant contributions to Joliet, 
17Will County, the State of Illinois, and beyond; and be it 
18further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, We commend the University of St. Francis for its 
20commitment to its students and extend best wishes to all for a 
21successful celebration; and be it further
